Sugar is one of the most consumed substances nowadays constituting to a great extent, the ingredients used in some of the most popular fast foods, snacks and drinks around the world. This overconsumption of  sugar has had very negative consequences, such as increase in diabetes, obesity and skin problems, which have skyrocketed and are in an all time high.

Refined sugars

Today, I will examine how sugar affects our skin. Sugar's oxidative properties can provoke acne and breakouts. Sugary foods have a high glycemic index, meaning that those foods once ingested can quickly convert into glucose that gives a spike of insulin which leads to the burst of inflammation in the whole body.
Ice cream
The big problem are foods that are high in sugar and saturated fats, for example, white bread, candy, fried foods, ice cream, soda or anything else with the main ingredient being sugar. If you look on the label or packaging of a product and notice that the first or second ingredient says sugar, then know that the product has sugar as its main ingredient.

The sugar causes these spikes in the blood insulin levels and further exacerbates inflammation. The big problem here are the steep insulin spikes. This is what produces excess oils and it contributes to the clogging of follicles thus worsening your skin complexion.

Your body breaks down these simple carbohydrates like white refined sugar and white flour and rapidly converts them to glucose which floods into the blood stream. When this occurs your body reacts by producing insulin to counter the glucose- insulin level spikes which lead to these inflammation as certain enzymes attach to your body's collagen in an oxidative process known as glycation. So what's happening is, this process breaks down the collagen and elastin this affecting the durability and elasticity of the skin. It can make the skin age quickly, sag or even wrinkle and lead to other skin problems as well.

Checking the labels of products  is very important as it will help you know what's going into your body.
Dermatologists recommend that people consume natural, mostly fruits rich in fiber as this will stabilize insulin levels and keep them from rising too high.
